8-12-07: Internal Hypocrisy and Astrology

A breakthrough day  - on 2 fronts.

On the external plane I placed an ad on CraigÕs List in the Bay Area. On the internal plane I discovered an astrological hypocrisy that IÕm going to attempt to avoid.

First an aside on hypocrisy: External hypocrisy is somewhat intentional and deliberately misleading - for instance when our President says that he is a man of peace as he wages war. This is distinctly hypocritical behavior because his deeds contradict his words. Christians are deemed hypocritical when they maintain that they believe in the teachings of Jesus and yet donÕt forgive, but instead retaliate in the name of God. These are examples of traditional hypocrisy.

Internal hypocrisy has to do with unintentionally misleading someone Ð frequently backed by good though incomplete intentions. An example is when the self righteous in any faith or religion bids another to be virtuous and the listener pretends to understand. This involves both participants in the inadvertent hypocrisy. Specifically it is hypocritical behavior when a well-meaning individual tells another to stop drinking excessively without offering a method to stop drinking Ð perhaps a substitute behavior or at least offering an understanding of underlying causes. Another example of this type of hypocrisy would be when a helpful person suggests that another look inward for tranquility without offering a method Ð or, on a more subtle level, without informing them that tranquility frequently leads to chaos Ð because true tranquility taps into the Void, where all sorts of spontaneous and uncontrolled behavior emerges. Anyway it is this second type of hypocrisy that I am trying to avoid Ð in any capacity but especially when it come to my astrology, which are so laden with baggage.

Hypocrisy is hard to avoid, but internal hypocrisy is the most difficult because it is based upon personal misconceptions. One common type of internal hypocrisy is when two people pretend that they know and understand what the other means. This tends to be inadvertent - based upon the desire to appear smarter than one really is. Someone introduces a word, concept, or experience, which I know nothing about, but I pretend to understand to facilitate the illusion that I am sophisticated and urbane. This is hypocrisy because IÕm pretending to be something IÕm not. Use of general words like patriotism, God, or the Now, which have a variety of meanings, not at all clear or distinct, regularly leads to a hypocritical dialogue, where at the best nobody is harmed.

So today I discovered an astrologic hypocrisy that I participate in. It has to do with event vs. influence-based interpretation. Because astrological aspects occur sequentially in time there is a huge tendency to interpret them in like manner. ÔSuch and suchÕ bad influence is followed by Ôsuch and suchÕ good influence. Therefore the bad precedes the good. This is logical Ð Left Brain certified Ð but it is not true. Because the Outer Planets energies are channeled by the Inner Planets Ð actually need the Inner Planetary power, especially the Sun and the Moon, to make themselves felt. So to interpret the Outer Planetary influences sequentially is hypocrisy to be avoided because their energies are relayed to the Earth in a wave-like fashion by the Inner Planets.

Of course the closer to the actual occurrence of the planetary aspect, the more powerful the influence is Ð due to wave resonance. However the Solar and Lunar energies are first and foremost in terms of channeling planetary energies. For instance Jupiter is in conflict with Uranus in early October and in alliance with Pluto and Neptune from late October through December. However the Inner Planets are stimulating these influences much earlier in mid Ð August. For instance the triple conjunction of the Sun, Mercury, and Venus augments the positive relation between Jupiter/Neptune this week Ð inspiration. This auspicious relationship is why I chose to advertise my astrology on CraigÕs List this week. However Mars aggravates the battle between Jupiter and Uranus next week. Our fair city is threatened by wild fires and is covered in soot.

This is the weekly level. While the Sun imparts a flavor to the week, the Moon dominates the hours. The emotional changes she ignites are rapid Ð fluctuating from one moment to the next. This is why the Moon is called moody. For instance she magnifies the positive relation between the Inner Planets (Sun/Mercury/Venus conjunction) and the Outer (Jupiter/Neptune) today and creates a grand square with the dreaded T-square between Mars/Jupiter/Uranus tomorrow.

While these influences are quickly passing Ð only a fading memory now, I use them as an example of why time sequential interpretations of the planetary aspects are a distortion to be avoided Ð an astrological hypocrisy. IÕm going to do my best to avoid this hypocrisy by focusing more the Lunar and Solar resonances with the other planetary aspects. Rather than creating the illusion that all influences are equal I will attempt to focus on the channeling of the outer planets inward, finishing with the Moon.

Further because they are all distinct waves they are separate and distinct from one another. Bad and good influences can happen simultaneously. Work can be afflicted while IÕm inspired. Therefore it is essential to differentiate the aspects rather than merging them. The Jupiter/Uranus conflict is distinct from the Jupiter/Neptune alliance and stimulated under very different circumstance.

HereÕs hoping for no more astrological hypocrisy (or at least less, now that I have illuminated the shadows with light.) Of course many residuals remain, but at least the Clear Light has been perceived; a veil has been lifted. Amen. Hallelujah! Praise be to God, Mother Nature, whatever.
